Drugs in Each Schedule in Oklahoma

Question: Can you discuss what drugs fall into each schedule in Oklahoma?

Answer: In Oklahoma, there are five schedules for what we call Controlled Dangerous Substances. Schedule I drugs typically are considered those which have a high potential for abuse and which have no accepted medical usage in the United States. Some of these drugs in Schedule I include heroin, ecstasy, marijuana, mushrooms and PCP. Schedule II drugs have also a high potential for abuse and there is an accepted medical use in the United States. These drugs include opium, methadone, methamphetamine, morphine and cocaine. Schedule III drugs have a less of an abuse or potential, there is an accepted medical use in the U.S., and they are not considered drugs which would be very subject to abuse, such as steroids and benzphetamines. Schedule IV drugs are similar to those in Schedule III. You’re looking at ephedrine, diazepam and alprazolam. And then Schedule V drugs have a low potential for abuse, there is an accepted medical use in the United States, and they are not considered to be highly addictive. These drugs are available in limited quantity, such as codeine and pseudoephedrine.
